The War Memorial at Walshaw is in the form of a Celtic cross mounted on a square plinth. It is located at the junction of High Street and Walshaw Road. The plinth carries the dedication: IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF OUR HEROIC DEAD THOSE MEN OF WALSHAW WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR OUR EMPIRE, HOMES, HONOUR AND LIBERTY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919 THIS CROSS WAS ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION AND UNVEILED 28TH AUGUST 1925 The dates 1939-45 were added after the Second World War. Walshaw, old Co-op
At the junction of High and Bank Streets. According to the plaque, part of Bury District Co-operative Provision Society, 1891. Department names above the windows are butcher, news room, clogger and grocer. Part of the building is now occupied by engineers.
