Memorial Garden, Westhoughton
The garden contains this memorial to the victims of the Pretoria Pit disaster. At 7.50am on 21 December 1910 there was a catastrophic explosion in the coal mine and 344 men and boys lost their lives.

Memorial to the Pretoria Pit Disaster
The memorial was erected a few days before the 100th anniversary of the disaster which occurred on 21 December 1910. 344 miners died in the disaster following a pit explosion.
