River Croal Downstream from Wilson's Bridge
The River Croal is a tributary of the River Irwell. It rises at the confluence of Middle Brook and Deane Church Brook and flows eastwards through Bolton, where most of the river is culverted through the town centre; running under Knowsley Street; Market Place and Bridge Street. It meets the Irwell a little further downstream from this photo, after a total course of around ten miles.

Wilson Bridge
The bridge is located over the River Croal, Farnworth. It was constructed in 2014 after replacing the old bridge which was situated in the same place. This image is viewed from the east side of the bridge.

Wilson's Bridge
Footbridge over the River Croal, between Moses Gate Country Park and Cemetery Road, Farnworth. The bridge has been blocked off at both ends, presumably because of safety concerns.

Moses Gate Country Park
The area around here was formerly occupied by Prestolee Chemical works; from 1805, it made chemicals for use in bleaching and printing and then from 1844, until the works closed and the site was levelled in 1875, washing soda.
