Horrockses Mill, Moses Gate
This site contained three mills dating from 1883-1920 and operated by Horrockses, Crewdson & Co Ltd. Closed as cotton mills in about 1960. These mills specialised in fine quiltings and cotton fancy goods. The foreground contained mills that have been cleared, exposing the impressive lump beyond. Unfortunately I was very tight on time and it was raining, hence the unimpressive photograph.

There was another mill in the foreground. This has been demolished and the land is up for sale.

Horrocks's mill, Moses Gate, Bolton
This was a large integrated cotton mill with both a multi-storey spinning mill and a large weaving shed. The latter had its own large steam engine but the shed has now been demolished leaving this block of 1915.

Horrockses Mill, Moses Gate, Bolton
This was a large integrated cotton mill with both a multi-storey spinning mill and a large weaving shed. The latter had its own large steam engine but the shed has now been demolished leaving this block of 1915. The shed was on the right and there is now a new housing development there, so this view will now have changed.

Modern housing and cotton mill
The foreground area was originally part of the Bolton Textile Mill No.1. The area between it and the still-existing Horrockses Mill was filled with traditional late 19th century terraces until redevelopment of the area in the 1980s.

Horrocks's Mill. Moses Gate, Bolton
This was a large integrated cotton mill with both a multi-storey spinning mill and a large weaving shed. The latter had its own large steam engine but the shed has now been demolished leaving this block of 1915. The deceptively small engine house was home to a 2,400 horsepower Yates & Thom horizontal cross compound with Corliss valve cylinders 33" & 66" x 4'6". This was scrapped in the 1960s.
