Veteran of the Battle of Waterloo
This gravestone, in Christ Church Harwood churchyard is in remarkably good condition. The inscription reads: To the memory of Thomas Lomax of Harwood who died on the 5th day of June 184? aged 51 years. He served in Her Majesty's Second Regiment of Life Guards for upwards of six and twenty years. He was in the Peninsula and on the continent during the years 1813, 1814, 1815 & 1816 and was present at the great Battle of Waterloo where he was wounded on the left shoulder, side and head. On obtaining his discharge he was presented in addition to his pension, with a gratuity and a silver medal for his good conduct. He departed this life after a long and painful illness in perfect peace relying on the merits and mediation of our Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ. Also Thomas Lomax Jnr. late of H.M. 23rd Royal Fusiliers who died at Tobago Novr. 24th 1845 aged 28 years.
