Firwood Fold
A small hamlet in Bolton consisting of former farmworkers' dwellings and outbuildings. It is a Conservation Area and the birthplace on 3rd. December 1753 of Samuel Crompton, the inventor of the Spinning Mule. The Mule revolutionised the cotton spinning industry not only in Lancashire, but also worldwide. Samuel was born in the thatched house with the tall brick chimney on the right.
