The Octagon Theatre
The name of this theatre, on Howell Croft Street, is derived from the shape of the building. Although not immediately obvious at street level, the octagonal shape is easily seen on aerial photos. The Octagon was the first theatre in the country to be designed for 'Theatre in the round', having a central stage surrounded by seating on all sides. The Octagon was opened on November 27th 1967 by Princess Margaret and won a National Civic Trust award in 1968.

Chadwick, Bolton
The statue is of Samuel Taylor Chadwick, a medical man who was instrumental in the improvement of sanitation for the people of the town in the nineteenth century. He also founded the Chadwick Orphanage for girls. He is buried in the churchyard of Bolton Parish Church. The statue is grade 2 listed. The statue stands outside Bolton Town Hall.
