Back Cheapside
Now a service road in Bolton town centre Back Cheapside holds quite a history. By the early 1890's the Bolton Socialists felt strong enough to rent premises in Back Cheapside and open the town's first Socialist Club. They served beer, established a library, provided entertainment in the form of chess, draughts and bagatelle, and to 'every genuine socialist on the road' the club gave one shilling provided the person in question could answer a number of questions posed by the barman.

County Borough of Bolton Technical School
On Mawdsley Street. The building was erected in 1891 and was used as a school until 1937 when the school was moved to a new building on Manchester Road.
The building is presently up for sale with planning permission to convert it into 40 student accommodation units.

The cleared site of the new bus and train interchange on Newport Street. The church in the background is St. Patrick's R.C. church. This view of the church was not possible until very recently, as now demolished buildings stood in the way.
