Two days after the Image had all finally melted, more of the white stuff came down today – surprisingly, since it had started rainy this morning. This picture was taken at 11:49am, by which time the snowfall had been going on for a couple of hours. By nightfall, the main carriageways of all the roads were clear of snow and ice, making this the severest snowfall I think I have ever seen that had started and almost disappeared all on the same day.

Looking along the westernmost section of Strouden Road at about 8:30 on a winter's morning. Many windscreens were iced by about 6 the previous evening. The windscreens on the right-hand side of the road, as we look, will probably thaw some time before those on the left – the sun cannot reach the southern side of the road as it remains in the shadow of the houses.

Strouden Road is typical of the Winton area - and indeed, of the Bournemouth suburbs in general - roads built shortsightedly without anticipating the eventual need for off-road parking facilities. Here we look along the western end, as the sun sets behind the facing houses of Muscliffe Road.

The night of the 10th December was the ninth of the month to have a sharp frost – my headlights illuminating the frosty road surface ahead. Taken around 11pm.

Throughout the day, the BBC weather forecast suggested temperatures of about 2ºC and 'light rain'.

Well, Chloe thinks she owns the street, although in fact she lives a couple of doors down, in Strouden Road.

Detail of this lamppost which is typical of many still in service in Bournemouth's suburbs, with the two 'handles' which would have supported the gasman's ladder in the days when there were gas lamps rather than electric bulbs installed. Tonight, the ninth night of January and the ninth cold one, the lamp is illuminating a frosty cobweb.

Looking along Strouden Road as I pull out of my drive on the umpteenth frosty morning in a row, residual ice formations remaining on my passenger side window.

This time last week this was a printing works! It is at 157 Strouden Road and presumably will be used to fill the unabating appetite for more housing.

Bournemouth woke up to its heaviest snowfall in at least a decade this morning, and this was the scene outside my house.
