‘Lapford’ receives attention, Bournemouth Shed
West Country 4-6-2 34102 'Lapford' (but now devoid of nameplates) appears to be receiving some attention in the depot's lifting shop. 34102 was built March 1950 and lasted until the end of Southern Region steam traction in July 1967; it was notable because it was the last unrebuilt West Country to be withdrawn.

Bournemouth locomotive shed ? 1963
A pair of BR Standard class 5 4-6-0s, 73029 and 73025 wait outside the shed. The former appears to be fresh from overhaul. Most locomotives of this class were painted black, but several of those allocated to the Southern Region received the green livery normally reserved for express locomotives. The two locomotives have tenders of different designs.

High voltage cable sign on Beechey Road
An old cast iron sign warns of the presence of some high tension lines on the bridge that crosses the railway below. Presumably S.E.B. stands for Southern Electricity Board.

'Merlin' at Bournemouth locomotive shed
BR Standard 5 4-6-0 73080 'Merlin' waits on the backroad of Bournemouth loco shed. Built June 1955 and withdrawn December 1966 it was one of 20 (of a total of 172) to carry a name. These were all names previously carried by locomotives of the 'King Arthur' class.

Cycles, buses and taxis only ? except buses, taxis and cycles
Coach House Place allows buses and taxis to access the railway station from Lansdowne Road. The apparent contradiction here stems from the fact that the circular sign replaced a 'No Entry' sign, underneath which the white plate would have been quite appropriate. However, now the blue sign has been put up, meaning '...only', the lower plate should be removed.

Shunting at Bournemouth Central Station ? 1966
Ivatt Class 2 2-6-2T 41312, probably on station pilot duties. The type was designed for the LMS railway but most of the class were built after 1948 by British Railways. This locomotive was one of the final 30, which were always allocated to the Southern Region, despite having ex-LMS series numbers. It has survived into preservation, currently (2021) on the Mid Hants Line.
