Shops and garage, Marine Drive, Barton-on-Sea
This picture was taken with a film camera in June 2002. It's a couple of years since I've been home to the UK (I live in Oz) and I suspect the used car garage may be no more.
The cliffs are about 100 metres to the right, out of frame, and the southern end of Barton Court Avenue is about 40 metres ahead.

Barton on Sea: memorial to convalescent depot
This monument rather resembles a war memorial but, although connected with the war, the inscription (facing left) tells us that it is not:
This memorial
is erected to commemorate
the establishment at
Barton on Sea in 1914
of the convalescent depôt for
Indian troops who fought in
Europe during the Great War
and was subscribed for by
members of the staff

Barton on Sea, obelisk
English Heritage-listed obelisk, erected to commemorate injured Indian WW1 troops who were cared for at nearby Barton Court, immediately to the south. Barton Court has largely been demolished, before it fell into the sea. For details of inscriptions on north & east faces, see
