St. Ives: St. Ives County First School
Although closest to Ringwood for secondary education which would start at age 11, St. Ives is Dorset side of the border, an area which has first (5-8 years), middle (8-13) and upper schools which start at age 13. This school therefore feeds to West Moors Middle, to the west.
It is the only school in Dorset starting with the word 'Saint' which is not a church school – it is named, of course, after the village – which derives its name from the plant ivy rather than any religious connection. It is thought that neighbouring St. Leonards, with which it forms the parish St. Leonards & St. Ives, was named purely for the 'Sainty' sound of St. Ives which existed beforehand.

St. Ives: post office
Situated on the corner of the old main road and Post Office Lane.
The width of the A-road symbol on the 1:50,000 map, along with its representation of the old road alongside, means that the office appears to have been pushed into the next gridsquare north. However, a look at the 1:25,000 map will show that it is comfortably in this square.
