Appropriately enough, this lane runs from one side of a valley to the other. This is looking downhill.

Valley Lane
This unmade road serves several homes down in the "valley". Although shown on maps as a through road, the sign at the beginning indicates that it is a cul-de-sac.

Thorney Hill, holly trees
There is an unusually high concentration of holly to the North-west of Thorney Hill; clumps or denser concentrations. Perhaps this accounts for the local place name (shown on OS) of Thorney Hill Holms: holm is a dialect word for holly. These specimens are along Forest Road.

Thorney Hill: congestion on Forest Road
A common cause of traffic hold-ups in the New Forest – although there isn't a great deal of traffic this sunny Mother's Day afternoon. The ponies do as they please, apparently oblivious to passing motorists, except that when you get close by they decide to cross the road forthwith.
