Wimborne - former house of Thomas Hardy
The novelist Thomas Hardy lived here with his wife Emma from 1881 to 1883. During his time at Avenue Road he wrote 'Two on a Tower' and reputedly learned much that went into his novels and stories by listening in on local Wimborne gossip. The house was conveniently sited near to the railway station where Hardy would catch the train to London to visit his publisher. It was also from where he travelled in 1882 to attend the funeral of Charles Darwin. Image
