Poole: Twin Sails bridge information
An information panel set up by the public viewing area of the construction of the Twin Sails bridge (see Image). The bridge will open in early 2012 and, in conjunction with the existing lifting bridge, will ensure that at least one of the bridges will be open to road traffic at all times, while the bridges are raised at staggered times to allow boats to continue their journey. The bridge itself is reflected in the glass towards the left of the panel.

Twin Sails Bridge, Poole
The bridge (also known as The second harbour crossing) is a double leaved bascule bridge which provides a second road link from Poole town centre to Hamworthy. The centre lifting span consists of two triangular leaves that span 23.4 metres between the main bearings to provide a clear channel of 19 metres when open. To permit the passage of boats through the navigation channel, the lift spans pivot to 88 degrees.

Poole: Twin Sails Bridge Approach
The Twin Sails Bridge, the new lifting bridge over the channel into Holes Bay which will work in conjunction with the existing Poole Bridge, opened today for pedestrians. It was due to open to vehicles this coming Monday but that has been delayed for a short time. Here we look along the road which has been appropriately named Twin Sails Bridge Approach, although traffic in this lane will be leaving rather than approaching the bridge, heading into the town centre. See Image for more information.
