Leander approaching Skipton
The LMS locomotive Leander approaches Platform 3 at Skipton on a trip from The Keighley and Worth Valley Railway to Ribblehead.
On Platform 2 a diesel from Carlisle to Leeds waits for its departure time of 09:57.
On Platform 1 is a local electric train to Bradford which will depart at 10:02.

New train on test at Skipton
One of Northern Rail's Nova electric trains, 331102, on a driver training exercise coming into platform 4 then reversing out to the sidings, to the bewilderment of passengers expecting the 10.47 to Leeds that had just been announced for this platform.

Shunting oil tanks at Skipton
There used to be a siding just east of the station, roughly where Morrisons supermarket now is, used for oil deliveries. Here in 1988 is a rake of such tanks being shunted by the station pilot 08707. Note that platform 4 in the foreground was at that time out of use by passenger trains.
The semaphore signals in this photo are also seen in Neil Clifton's 1983 view Image but were replaced, along with the signal box in the distance, in the 1990s electrification.
