The stone is surely erected here, not natural; but it's not shown on detailed maps as an antiquity and has no inscription, nor does it appear to have formed part of a field boundary. It's just there.

An odd gate on a footpath
There is a stile, so the additional fence and gate would seem to be unnecessary, unless they are intended to pen in the odd sheep. The gate itself, a mix of solid metal panel and metal railings, must be reclaimed from elsewhere.

Western boundary, Carleton-in-Craven churchyard
The central headstone marks a Commonwealth war grave. The inscription reads "Northumberland Fusiliers / 41326 Private / C. C. Cockshott / Tyneside Irish N. F. / 2nd December 1918 Age 27".

Northern corner, Carleton-in-Craven churchyard
In the middle of the front row of graves is a Commonwealth war grave. The inscription reads "18881 Private / F. S. Metcalfe / Duke of Wellington's Regt. / 9th June 1917 / The care of them / is with the most high".
