The White Chapel, Cleckheaton
The White Chapel is an ancient church, originally a chapel of Birstall Parish built c.1130 and rebuilt in 1706. The present building is of 1831, in the lancet style and with a polygonal bell-turret. It was restored in 1877-88 by W H Howorth of Cleckheaton. There is a sundial over the priest's door. Inside there is a Norman font, with decorative carving and a carved oak pulpit of 1911 and chancel screen of 1925. (N. Pevsner, The Buildings of England, 1979)
