Nelson station, Lancashire
This station, once large and important, (there was a 10-road goods station attached) is now reduced to a single line carrying an hourly service from Preston and Burnley to Colne. But all is not lost - a new transport interchange is taking shape just outside, and a local society with the support of Members of Parliament from both sides of the House is campaigning for the restoration of the through railway to Skipton. If this were done, the East Lancashire corridor would begin to share the prosperity of Yorkshire's Aire Valley, where frequent electric trains are very well filled.

Nelson station
Originally named after a public house, the station then passed on the name to a whole town. Only short trains now call at this formerly important station, so the outer ends of the platforms are abandoned to weeds.

Station Hotel, Nelson, Lancashire
Very large public house and sometime hotel in the centre of Nelson. difficult to photograph owing to the construction work in the foreground of a modern transport interchange. Sensibly, Lancashire County Council have an ongoing positive and supportive attitude to public transport.

Entrance to Nelson Interchange
This is the south entrance to Nelson Interchange, so called because the bus station is adjacent (and linked) to the railway station, whose canopy is visible on the embankment to the right.

Nelson railway station, Lancashire
Opened in 1849 by the East Lancashire Railway on its line from Burnley to Colne. Formerly an island platform, trains now only call at the platform on the right. This view north east is along the former northbound platform towards Colne.
