Colne railway station, Lancashire
Opened in 1848 by the Leeds and Bradford Extension Railway, the East Lancashire Railway arrived here (from behind the camera) a year later, from Burnley. The line from Leeds and Skipton closed in 1970 leaving only the ELR line to Burnley and beyond. View north towards the buffers but previously onwards to Foulridge and Skipton. The station once boasted an island platform to the left, and goods shed and sidings to the right.

Colne station, with DMU 1996
View northward, towards buffer-stops, formerly towards Skipton. This was the terminus of the L&YR (East Lancashire section) from Burnley etc., but until 2/2/70 there was an ex-Midland line on to Skipton that made a useful secondary trans-Pennine route. The DMU is a Class 142 'Pacer' forming a service to Burnley, Blackburn, Preston and Blackpool. (Cf. Image] and Image]).

Colne station: Cass 150 unit with a service to Blackpool South
The use of a Class 150 unit is something of a luxury on this line: the more usual train is a 'Pacer'.
