Crawshawbooth: Burnley Road (A682)
Looking north. The bus is on Route X43, now branded as the 'Witch Way', operating between Nelson and Manchester. The route has an interesting history, being at one time the 243 (all stops) or 743 (limited stop), which ran from Skipton to Manchester, before there was a motorway. These routes ran via Bury. The northern terminus was Skipton for many years but was cut back first to Barnoldswick and then to Nelson. Operation via the motorway instead of Bury was begun, using route number X43, and the 743 routing eventually dropped out of use altogether so that Bury is no longer served. The new 'Witch Way' is the next best thing to a direct rail service. The headway is twenty minutes during the day, and these buses don't hang about.

Crawshawbooth
Crawshawbooth is a small village just north of Rawtenstall and a part of the valley of Rossendale. The majority of the surrounding land is farm and moor land and many walkers come to the area. The Victorian houses along the main road are very spacious and are great family homes.

Not quite as vibrant as it used to be. The larger building on the left was a former NatWest bank, and its closure has contributed to the struggle of the village.
