Weir near Hugh Mill, Waterfoot, Lancashire: 1949
The weir forms part of the course of Cowpe Brook, a tributary of the River Irwell. Hugh Mill itself, which was a woollen mill, adjoins on the left (its lower corner can just be seen), while the terrace houses are in Carr Lane (to the left) and Bridge Street (across the back). Hugh Mill has long since been demolished and replaced by modern housing: however, the area continues to be referred to as 'Hugh Mill'.
