Barnoldswick: Alice Street
The houses in this street are genuine 'back to backs', a type of house which was once very common in large cities such as Leeds and Birmingham. But the vast majority of these houses were demolished in the 1920s and 30s, when large new estates of council houses were built to replace them.

Holy Trinity Church, Barnoldswick, Yorkshire
A relatively modern building which replaced the previous St. James's Church close by. While pleasant enough, a thing of beauty was not created here. A traditionally designed church with square tower, or even a proper spire, would have been a real enhancement to the town. The Ordnance Survey depicts it as 'Church with Spire'. It must have been a marginal decision.
