Old Milestone by the A671, Whalley Road, Simonstone
Carved stone post by the A671, in parish of Simonstone (Ribble Valley District), Whalley Road, near Lawrence Avenue, 200m West of Simonstone Lane, on the verge, on North side of road. Padiham stone, erected by the Bury to Blackburn, Whalley etc. turnpike trust in the 19th century. Re-located at some time from the South side of the road. Inscription reads:- : TO PADIHAM / 1½ MILES / TO / BURNLEY / 4¾ (MILES) : : SIMONSTONE : : TO / WHALLEY / 3 MILES / TO / CLITHEROE / (5 MILES) : Cancelled benchmark on edge near road.
