North East Portal of Gannow Tunnel, Leeds and Liverpool Canal
The 559 yard-long Gannow Tunnel was excavated between 1795 and 1801. Its completion allowed the canal to be opened between Burnley and Enfield. The north east portal was grade II-listed in 1977 (English Heritage Building ID: 467239 http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-467239-east-portal-of-gannow-tunnel-lancashire British Listed Buildings).

North portal of the Gannow Tunnel in Burnley
A 511 metre long tunnel on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, it took 5 years to build. Junction 10 of the M65 motorway was constructed over the top of the tunnel.
