Leeds and Liverpool Canal
The opposite bank is the site of the wharf for Reedley Colliery. The canal is wider here, although the wharf area is overgrown now. In the centre of the photo, the remains of a bridge pier can be seen, standing on what was an island quay. There was a low bridge across from the colliery to the island, presumably this carried a conveyor.

The Railway from Heald Road Bridge
The railway heading northwards towards Nelson and its terminus at Colne. There have been suggestions that the line between Colne and Skipton should be rebuilt, as most of the trackbed is still in place. This would provide another Trans Pennine route, for relatively little cost.
