St John the Baptist Parish Church, Glastonbury, Early in the Morning.
Taken (before 6 o'clock in the morning) from the bathroom of a B+B in the bottom left of the grid square. The view from the top of the tower is well worth the 160 spiral step climb. The smaller church tower on the left is that of St Benedicts.

The Sign for Beckets
Thomas a Becket (1117-70) was Arch-bishop of Canterbury when he was murdered in his own cathedral by supporters of Henry II. The king and Becket had been opposed on a number of issues, but it is not clear whether Henry ordered the murder. In 1174 he id penance at what was now the tomb of St Thomas a Beck, the Church having recognised him as a martyr. His shrine attracted countless pilgrims thereafter, including those in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales.
