Closed gates of the creamery

Over a century of milk
Evercreech's main factory first began working with milk over 120 years ago in this site. Just around the corner was a silk factory. As the plant grew, particularly post-war, the owners changed hands on occasions.
Shortland Aplin and H.W. Barrett began a wholesale dairy business in 1893 in Yeovil, and created the St Ivel brand in 1901. The business was later absorbed into the Unigate (Uniq) label. But by 2002 some of the product lines were bought by Dairy Crest, which embraced the Evercreech plant. This then became bought by an Irish concern Greencore Group, which carried on the production of chilled desserts until 2017. However, the ancient factory and its facilities were causing headaches and inefficiencies due to its age. The site is now closed, the many jobs lost.
