South side of St Peter's
Evercreech has had a place of worship of some description from about the fifth century. The church of St Peter dates from around 1300, with Blue Lias rubble part of the structures. There was more work carried out in the following century, but a large proportion of the current fabric was restoration work from the early and middle 1800s, and finally from the late 1900s Grade I listed..

A magnificent tower
St Peter's church tower dates originally from about 1462, with extensive restorations in the nineteenth century. It is a magnificent example of the East Mendip type, one that Pevsner remarked as the best in the county. See https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/6214855 for a closer look at the unusual clock.

The clock of St Peter's
Evercreech - the land where 10 o'clock does not exist! Careful examination shows that the clockface has no X but two XIIs. The local legend persists that ten o'clock was the time a husband was to return home from the pub - so he had the clock made without it!
