Old Milepost by the A371, Cannard's Grave Road, Shepton Mallett
Cast iron post by the A371, in parish of Shepton Mallett (Mendip District), just North of Cannard's Grave, near Gore End Farm, on grass verge in front of fence, on West side of road. Plated iron casting, erected by the Shepton Mallet turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription reads:- : SHEPTON / MALLET / 1 : : BRUTON / 6 : : CASTLE / CARY / 7 : Somerset HER. The sweet smell of success
It wouldn't be the Mid-Somerset Show if it didn't have some cheddar cheese, would it? Rows of various classes of cheese are laid out for the passing judges and public. On a warm, sultry day the tent contained a particular aroma.
