Vernier Springs & Pressings, Vernier Works, Redditch
On Edward Street. One of Redditch's traditional metal working industries. Redditch initially became a centre for needle manufacture with hooks and springs following later. It was getting dusky and I think my Canon pushed to 1600 ISO would have done better than my Lumix. For more information see - http://verniersprings.com/

Industry on Hewell Road, Redditch
Closest is the cream frontage of Peterson Spring. This is a US-based company established in 1914 and this is the UK manufacturing plant. Not surprisingly, springs feature heavily in the company's portfolio. The brick works beyond is A Poole & Son Ltd, another spring manufacturer. Redditch specialised in the manufacture of needles initially with hooks and springs developing later. There is still quite a lot to see around and about.

Mettis Aerospace - celebratory banner
Originally known as High Duty Alloys - HDA - this large forging complex was built in 1937 to make pistons for Rolls Royce Merlin engines (more than 10 million made). The site is still very much in business making high-duty forgings for the aerospace industry - particularly gas turbine blades and undercarriage legs. The workshops contain a delightful array of brutal metal-bashing equipment, culminating in a 16,000 ton hydraulic press. A colleague has had the pleasure of a visit here but there is strictly no photography inside.

Hollington House and Chillingsworth House, Dixon Close, Redditch
At the time of submission, aerial photos show a cleared site. In the past it was the town's gas works.

The small terminus station at Redditch, Worcestershire. This single platform replaced a larger station located behind the photographer. The line is electrified and carries trains on the 'Cross City Line' through Birmingham to Lichfield Trent Valley.
