From Town Hall to Silver Street - Tamworth, Staffordshire
A view westwards on Market Street to its junction with Silver Street. Southwards Silver Street becomes Holloway with, on its eastern side, Tamworth Castle and Museum. Southwards again stands Lady Bridge crossing the River Tame. On the right Tamworth's TOOLBOX, the HSBC (Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation) Bank, the NatWest (National Westminster) Bank and the Market Vaults pub (public house). In recent years trade has ebbed away from Tamworth town centre following the building of the Jolly Sailor and the Ventura Retail Parks. Time photo taken 12.38 pm GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).

Window of the Market Vaults, Tamworth
As the etched glass shows, the Market Vaults on Market Street was once a Banks's pub and their slogan 'Unspoilt by Progress' is part of the design. It is now operated by Joules who brew their beers at Market Drayton in Shropshire. Nevertheless, the inside is full of character including a roaring fire in the front room - perfect for a chilly day.

The Tamworth Tap
This Market Street pub in the centre of Tamworth won the impressive accolade of National Pub of the Year for 2022, awarded by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). This is no mean achievement given that every pub in the UK is potentially eligible. Customers will find eight different ales on handpumps available (including locally brewed examples) as well as a selection of bottled beers, cider, gin and wine.
