Smethwick West railway station (site), West Midlands
Opened in 1867 as Smethwick Junction by the Great Western Railway on its line from Birmingham Snow Hill to Stourbridge, this station closed in 1995. It was effectively replaced by Smethwick Galton Bridge, just 100m to the east and which straddles two railway lines.
View east towards Galton Bridge and Birmingham. Both platforms were extant when this image was taken but everything else had been removed.

Smethwick Junction
From the upper platforms at Galton Bridge station, the junction between the former Great Western line and the ex-LNW line coming in from Birmingham New Street can be seen beyond the A457 bridge. Immediately beyond the junction used to be Smethwick West station. It was replaced by Galton Bridge station when the line between Smethwick and Birmingham Snow Hill was re-opened.
