Birmingham Canal Navigations near Smethwick, Sandwell
Looking north-west on a very dull morning towards Sandwell and Wolverhampton, this is the Birmingham Canal Navigations New Main Line, engineered by Thomas Telford and mostly completed 1824-1827. One of his improvements was to have towpaths on both sides of the water.
Derelict buildings and the chimney of the old Soho Foundry are on the right.

Post-industrial forest
When travelling along the canal, many apparently derelict plots of land and former sites of industry have become clothed in a verdant forest due to neglect, which is both ironic and a lesson for us! The building to the right is part of, the Soho Foundry. See also Image
