Ye Olde Black Cross (2), 70 Worcester Road
Long ago this pub's cellars were used as holding cells for prisoners awaiting public execution. Apparently a ghost, which has allegedly been seen there, could be connected to those events. Image

Ye Olde Black Cross (1), 70 Worcester Road
This is the only surviving timber-framed building in Worcester Road. Parts of it date from the early 17th century. There are other buildings in the street which might appear to be timber-framed, but it is an external decorative effect. Today Ye Olde Black Cross provides accommodation, has a beer garden, and serves food. Image

Wishful thinking
During the 2010 World Cup football finals, quite a lot of people got a bit carried away despite England's team being not very good. Pubs all over the place were smothered with England flags. In Bromsgrove, the firm of Dixons, estate agents, even had these for sale boards made with the flag and the slogan "Come on England It's coming home". A few days after this photograph was taken England were badly beaten by Germany, and that, as they say, was the end of that. Quite who was the most embarrassed, Dixons, or the owner of this house in Worcester Road, is unknown.

Dog & Pheasant, 22-24 Worcester Road, Bromsgrove
A town centre pub. When photographed in June 2010, the World Cup was in full swing. The England flags had been attached to some temporary fencing, which had been put up, presumably because of building works.
