This is a recent cut of the canal, which was rerouted to allow construction of the M42 motorway in the mid 1980s, just out of sight to the left, and behind the embankment.

Bridge No 64A north of Alvechurch, Worcestershire
This bridge carries the towpath to the new course of the Worcester and Birmingham Canal. The Crown Meadows Arm is ahead, about three hundred metres in length, and created when the canal route was realigned to allow the construction of the M42 motorway in the mid 1980s. Boats are not permitted, the arm being designated as a nature reserve.
