134-138 Edmund Street, Birmingham
Dwarfed by and absorbed into modern office blocks. On the left we have gentle brick and terracotta Arts-and-Crafts (albeit without its ground floor), dated 1897, while next door is much more muscular Gothic of 1881-82, by Martin & Chamberlain. Grade II listed (the latter).
Writing in the 1966 Pevsner guide, Alexandra Wedgwood expressed the hope that the C19th street would not be subject to piecemeal redevelopment. Assuming Pevsner himself agreed, it's probably just as well he didn't live to see it as it is now.
