Snowy Owl behind glass
A blank unpainted owl looks out from a shop unit in Great Western Arcade. The owls are a hit with young and old alike. There must be tens of thousands of photographs on mobile phones and tablets as parents and children trail around the city centre owls. I have met parents who have photographed over forty by lunchtime! At times there are queues to photograph some in the popular spots.

Christmas in the Great Western Arcade 2012
Only a Christmas tree with a few lights this year. It was different in 2009 Image
In 1874 the railway cutting between Moor Street and Snow Hill Station was covered over. The Grade 2 listed Victorian arcade was built in 1875-6 to a design by W H Ward. The roof was damaged during the Birmingham Blitz and was replaced.
