View north-east from the Library of Birmingham
This is the view seen by looking north-east from the Secret Garden, on Level 7 of the Library of Birmingham. The long red-brick building at the foot of the image is in Summer Row. Leading away on the right of the picture is Lionel Street. Notice the canalside plastic clad Islington Gates apartments development (on the left) by Fleet Street. This was built in 2002, and following the 2017 Grenfell Tower fire, in 2019 the block was deemed to have different but still unsafe cladding, which has to be removed. This started in April 2021.

Coffin Works - stamping shop
This shows the large two person drop stamp on the right and a fly press on the left. The bench in the right foreground contains some of the dies. The stamps are used to produce parts for coffin furniture from 'tin sheet' and the fly presses trim off the excess.

Coffin Works - Drop stamp demonstration
One of the tour guides is showing how parts of coffin furniture were impressed into sheet metal by dies with one fixed at the bottom and one on the stamp head. In this case it was a raised impression of RIP to attach to coffin handles. The piece was then trimmed off the excess metal on a fly press. The stamp head is falling and is blurred in the low light. The operator is also slightly blurred but it does bring the process to life.
