Edward VIII postbox, Middlemore Road, Northfield, Birmingham
A very rare postbox dating from the short reign of King Edward VIII in 1936. Despite this being one of the few surviving artifacts dating from his reign, and one of only a very small number of Edward VIII postboxes in Birmingham, this example is in a poor state and could badly do with a repaint. Postbox number:- B31 745. Post code:- B31 3**. Last collection:- 4 p.m. Monday to Friday; 11.45 a.m. Saturday. The box is located near the corner of Middlemore Road and Wychall Road. It can be seen in this view:- Image Image

Royal Cypher on Edward VIII postbox, Middlemore Road, Northfield, Birmingham
The postbox has been repainted so many times, although not recently, that the crown and Royal Cypher are no longer very sharp. There seems to be no definite figure for the number of surviving Edward VIII boxes in the country, but one source quotes about 130. But most of the figures quoted, which vary widely, seem to be based on pure guesswork. Image
