Businesses, 1070 - 1080 Stratford Road, Hall Green
This shopping parade was erected in 1913, as can be seen on the gable. In a scene characteristic of modern suburban shopping parades, there are three hair salons and three food establishments. But I suppose we have to be grateful that the units are not vacant. The unit on the extreme left (1070) was formerly a bank.

Prior to this shop unit's construction, probably in the 1960s but certainly pre-1973, a cinema stood on this site. The shop is a £Poundstretcher but has previously housed various other businesses, including a Mac Fisheries fishmongers.

Site of Midland Bank / HSBC Hall Green 40-11-11
I worked for Midland Bank HSBC for 32 years and spent all but the last two in Birmingham Branches. I am photographing all the branches, or what's left of them, as they were when I joined Midland Bank in 1963. The branches all start with the sorting code 40-11.
This was the Hall Green branch at 1146 Stratford Road It later became a sub-office to Kings Heath Branch before closing and now being used by a bookmakers. The sorting code was 40-11-11.
