The Mailbox, Birmingham
Formerly Royal Mail's Birmingham sorting office, the building was extensively reconstructed to create an up-market shopping, office and entertainment venue opening in 2000. The BBC now has its Birmingham broadcasting studios here. In this view people pass in and out of the doorway on Royal Mail Street.

Follow the trail to the Mailbox
The coloured stripes on the paving lead to this daunting set of steps at the main entrance to the Mailbox. This site near New Street Station was occupied by the main sorting office for Birmingham.

Would I dare sit down in here?
A far cry from the original incarnation of the Mailbox with its open chasm and balcony walkways. Still has the upmarket shops and low footfall, seemingly only me and the security staff this morning.
