Birches Green Substation
I'm just guessing that that is the correct name. I also assume that the structure bridging the canal carries supply cables. Any suggestions as to what this could, should or is called; an electroduct?

Birmingham and Fazeley Canal near Birches Green, Birmingham
Ahead is Wood Lane Bridge partly hidden by a pipe bridge fifty metres nearer. This canal's purpose was to provide a link between Birmingham and the south east of England, by way of the Coventry Canal and the Oxford Canal. John Smeaton was the engineer, and the canal was completed in 1789. The canal now runs from the BCN Main Line at Old Turn Junction, Birmingham to the Coventry Canal at Fazeley Junction, just outside Tamworth. The length is 15 miles (24 km), and it includes 38 locks. There is also a short branch to Digbeth, Birmingham. Information from Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_and_Fazeley_Canal .

Canal bridges at Birches Green, Birmingham
Birmingham and Fazeley canal. The nearer black covered structure encloses a pipe bridge. Beyond that is the concrete covered Wood Lane Bridge. The puddles on the towpath are evidence of a very wet day, though it had stopped raining by the time this picture was taken.
