Birmingham and Fazeley Canal south of Gravelly Hill, Birmingham
The Birmingham and Fazeley Canal was completed in 1789 having been engineered and supervised by John Smeaton. It linked Birmingham (Farmer's Bridge Junction) with the Coventry Canal at Fazeley Junction, fifteen miles in length, with 38 locks. An extension along part of the Coventry Canal route to Whittington was added later.

Birmingham & Fazeley Canal: Troutpool Bridge
The bridge carries Walker Drive over the canal. Nicholson's Waterways Guide calls this New Troutpool Bridge, with Troutpool Bridge itself several hundred metres east. However old Ordnance Survey large scale maps show the only Troutpool Bridge in this location so the photographer is a trifle confused!
