Old trees, new houses, Varley Road, Pype Hayes
This area appears to be a former council estate that has been almost completely rebuilt as private housing. Varley Road was the formal axis, with St Mary's Church at the eastern end, here seen in the distance, and the Paget School at the western end, behind the camera. New housing on Paget Road
I'd agree with the comments in Image about these houses being a redevelopment of the area - the size of the trees suggests that they lined a road which pre-dates the current buildings.

Millennium war memorial, Pype Hayes B24
The original war memorial Image had no room for any more names. This polished black granite obelisk was erected for the millennium, opposite the west front of the 1930s St Mary's church. The inscription at the base of the left-hand face of the memorial reads: "We name before God, These from our homes and parish, Who have laid down their lives In the cause of peace and freedom"

The Millennium War Memorial and St Mary's Church, St Mary's Close, Pype Hayes
The polished black granite Millennium obelisk commemorates lives lost in armed conflicts since 1945. There is a solemn inscription: We name before God, These from our homes and parish, Who have laid down their lives In the cause of peace and freedom. The Great War memorial can be seen in the shadow on the right Image This large red brick church was designed by E.F.Reynolds and completed in 1930. It is at one end of the axis of a former council estate that has been rebuilt as private housing. The Paget School was and still is at the western end. The straight axial Varley Road has been remodelled and traffic-calmed as Hale Grove, Varley Road and Paget Green. St Mary's Close, foreground, is a paved circle on a spur from Padstow Road.
