Although the bank closed many years ago and has passed through other users since, the original acid etched Midland Bank sign still remains in the window. This can clearly be seen on image Image

I worked for Midland Bank HSBC for 32 years and spent all but the last two in Birmingham Branches. I am photographing all the branches, or what's left of them, as they were when I joined Midland Bank in 1963. The branches all start with the sorting code 40-11. This is the Lozells Branch at 350 Wheeler Street and standing on the corner of Lozells Road. Although closed for many years and re-used, first a Temple and now a community centre, The windows still carry the gold signage for Midland Bank and the Guinea & Griffin logo. A bit of a mouthful compared to its original name, St Paul's, but it's apparently still a place of worship. It sits at the junction of Lozells Road with Wheeler Street.

St Paul's Church stands on Lozell Road with the picture taken from Wheeler Street. The modern building on the right was once Midland Bank, 350 Wheeler Street, Lozells. It still has panes of the original glass in the windows etched with "Midland Bank" and the Griffin logos many years after the bank closed. It has been used as a Sikh Temple and is now a community centre.

Heading east.

This building may no longer be church. Being where it is it could be anything from a cash-and-carry to a temple. A sign nearby indicated that part of it is being used as a child day-care centre. The category of church has only been used for want of a better description.
