Bhai Kanhayya House, Handsworth New Road, Birmingham ? detail
Formerly Handsworth New Road School, converted to flats in 1996. Built in 1901 it was one of the last of the series of Birmingham Board Schools. Designed by local architectural practice Buckland and Farmer, in an eclectic, Arts and Crafts based, style, it follows the layout and forms established for the Board by the firm of Martin and Chamberlain, with gabled classrooms projecting from a central spine. Listed Grade II. This view shows a detail of the cast iron railings surrounding the school, and one of the unusual half-ellipse windows of a former classroom.
