Entering Edgbaston
Birmingham has always been good at signposting its constituent districts and this prominent sign, which as it happens stands slap bang on the OS gridline, tells motorists that they are passing from Harborne into Edgbaston. A no 22 bus heads up Harborne Road on the frequent service to Kitwell.

The Birmingham Blue Coat School
The Blue Coat School is a private preparatory day school in Birmingham for children aged two to 11. The school was founded as a charity school under the guidance of Reverend William Higgs, Rector of St Philip's Church, now Birmingham Cathedral. At its outset, it provided food, clothing and education to 32 boys and 20 girls from poor families, aged between nine and 14. The school moved to its present site on the borders of Edgbaston and Harborne in 1930. I think the most of the children attending the school in the 21st century will have rather different family backgrounds to those who attended the school in the 1720s: In 2010 fees per term were: Pre-Prep: £1,585 - £2,680; Prep: £3170 - £3,285.
