View across Centenary Square in Birmingham
Looking east across the Shallow Pool in Centenary Square (renovated and reopened in 2019) from near the Birmingham Rep theatre, in early evening sunlight.
On the left is the HSBC building (2017-2018), with the Grade II listed Alpha Tower (1969-1973) behind it. The low building centrally was the First Municipal Savings Bank; this Grade II listed building opened in 1933, and closed in 1976. The University of Birmingham took over the lease in 2018 https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/the-exchange/about-the-exchange.aspx. On the right is the HMRC (tax offices!) building dating from 2017, and by the pool is the West Midlands Metro Library tram stop, which came into service on 11 December 2019).
On the left, a little girl is enjoying a paddle, and is fascinated by one of the fountains!

Birmingham skyline
A grey and wet view from the Secret Garden of the new library. On the left is Alpha Tower. HSBC is to its right with a new building being constructed to its right. Tramway construction is happening in the bottom foreground. Bottom right was part of an event celebrating the 2022 Commonwealth Games coming to Birmingham.

Two banks reflected in Birmingham
This is a view looking east-south-east from near Symphony Hall, across the Shallow Pool in Centenary Square (renovated and reopened in 2019).
The low building by the Library metro stop was the First Municipal Savings Bank. This Grade II listed building opened in 1933, and closed in 1976. The University of Birmingham took over the lease in 2018.
Behind it is the new (2017-2018) Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation HSBC building, with the Grade II listed Alpha Tower (1969-1973) just visible behind it.
On the left edge is something new being built over the Queensway underpass. I don't know what it will be yet.
