Chandlers Road, Marshalswick
Chandlers Road is typical of this part of the Marshalswick estate (or suburb?) of St Albans. When the estate was built there were two types of residence: the three-bedroomed semi with garage and the four-bedroomed detached houses on the corners of roads. Cherry trees were planted on the verge between the road and pavement and some of these survive (see the blossom in this photo) and others have been removed due to the damage their roots caused to the pavement and garden walls. Almost all the houses on the estate have been personalised in some way - extensions built, new driveways laid - even new houses built in the gaps.
